No Zero – a Year 4 Investigation

These investigation ‘solutions’ by 4 different children right at the start of the year demonstrate some of the skills necessary to successful investigative mathematical learning. It can be seen that there is no single ‘correct’ way of approaching the problem; more importantly, that the children have found a way to make a start. Some of them have visibly changed their minds as they worked, and it is crucial that they feel that it is OK to take a risk that might not work out.
